"Sunny days, keeping the clouds away.....on my way to where the air is sweet! Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street????"
Don't you just have that jingle in your head???
Here are the 2nd birthday cakes from our Sesame Street birthday. This year, we opted for a small family party in leiu of a big friend/family party and then something else on the actual birthday date. It worked out really nicely, but I did miss having some people there! As it was, our house was packed!
We started the big day with going to pick up Poppy's Christmas gift for Meme, so we had a new Sesame DVD to watch about birthdays in the car. We had a Wendy's lunch, colored in new coloring books, and then ALL of us took a nap. It was a nice, slow day.
In fact, Meme & Poppy woke us up at 5:30 pm when they arrived early with the helium for balloons. It was a good thing or we may have all been asleep when the guests arrived!
I also elected to get Pizza Hut pizzas for the food, so I didn't have to do a lot, which was really nice. We had a few veggies, chips, dip, cake, and punch to go with the pizza. It was simple, yet fun. I had gotten the kids shirts, Emmy's was pink with the Sesame Characters on it. Carson's had the characters too, but his was so cute-it said "Everything I know I learned on the Street." So funny.
My sister, Amanda, had Sesame games for the kids to play. When she told me about her games, I reminded her she would only have a few kids and they were pretty much all little. She never gets discouraged and LOVES games at any occasion. We had pin the nose on Elmo, Ernie's Lost his Rubber Duck, and a Letter and Number of the Day game. The kids had fun and we still have an Elmo poster in the twins' room.
Gifts were another story....that was interesting. The twins kept hopping from me to Dustin to Poppy to whoever, so gifts were flying and every gift was their favorite. So, they didn't want to keep opening stuff, especially Carson. Emmy is funny because she says "Awww" no matter what she opens.
Carson's favorite gift was probably a "mudslinger" tractor from my uncle. It was a John Deere with mud on it. He sleeps with it every night. He also got other "tractors" which means any type of tractor, truck, or car; a dump truck, clothes, his name in a puzzle, a coat, and a work bench.
Emmy loved everything, I don't know that she had a favorite-she loves her baby dolls a lot. She got 3 babies, Bitty Twins from American Girl that look like her and Carson, a tea cart, clothes, a coat, a name puzzle, and other stuff I'm probably forgetting also. I was actually able to figure out what everyone gave them once it was over and the twins were in bed. Oh, they also got a picnic table together which will be for spring. I put some of the stuff back for long winter days when we can't go outside, it's always neat to get a new toy out. It worked well last year and I hope to do this each year until they are wise to it.
I have to say, the kids loved their cakes so much. I was surprised. They just beamed when they saw them and loved everyone singing to them. We always sing individually to each one, and they grinned ear to ear as we sang. It made all my hard work on the cakes SO worth it!
I don't know how many years we can get by with the same "theme" for parties, but we'll see. I'm glad I don't have to think about that for about 9 months! We'll see what next December brings. I think they had a very special, very "Sesame" day. :-)
