Well, I have two kindergarteners. How did THAT happen? We are almost done with our third week of school, and it is going great! After one solid year and a week, Carson finally decided to quit crying about having to go to school. No more clinging, crying, being peeled off Momma each morning. You have no idea how much this relieves me. I would literally get a knot in my stomach each morning before waking him up. I can't even describe how awful it was to get him ready and to class. This year started out that way, but he quickly began loving school. In fact, he had a dr.'s appointment this morning, and he insisted I get him to school before gym class or else he would "miss out on all the fun." I mean, he barely let us stop for a bite to eat on the way home. He was fussing the whole time in the dr.'s office that it was taking WAY too long and we would miss class. I can't say how happy this change has made me! Emilynn began the year just fine. She has had about a week of tearing up when I drop her off, but we are working through that. It is nothing like what Carson used to do, so I hope it passes quickly.
As far as class goes, I am thrilled with what they have already learned, and their teacher is awesome! She is so sweet, yet very firm and strict. I am amazed at the scriptures they have learned and the counting they are doing. I think we are off to a great year.
I really can't say enough about how much I love their little school. From the moment we pull up in the mornings, they are so loved and so encouraged. The principal gets them out of the car and walks them to the door. With all of Carson's anxieties, he will sometimes piggy back him in, sometimes he has a piece of candy as a treat for the kids.....whatever it takes to get them excited about starting their school day. At 7:45 a.m. Just saying for all who know me-that is early y'all!!!! We leave home between 7:15-7:25 each morning. I have to say....and I never thought I'd say this....I am now used to getting up early and going to bed early and it is much easier. I don't dread it. I never thought this would happen. I have had to cut myself off of fiction books for now. They are too tempting to make me stay up late!! Anyway......
Once inside, either the librarian or lower school director will walk them to their class. Today both were tied up, so another teacher headed that way offered to walk Emilynn to class. I just love how everyone works together and it is like a family. I am thrilled with them learning Bible verses and prayers, and their music, religion, and etiquette teacher is a preacher- so all of that is Bible based. Yay for God in school!!! That makes me happy!
The twins also get to go to art class this year, which makes them sooooo happy! They knew the art teacher because his room was right by their preschool class and now they finally get to go paint and such with him. They are beyond thrilled about this. Apparently, painting is super-cool! Especially at school and not at home (so says the mom who has had lots of painting messes to clean up!).
All in all, it is going better than I could have ever hoped. I can't believe I have kindergarteners!!!!
