Happy Birthday Dylan & Nicole!

Welcome Dylan Zachary to our family today!  My cousin Kristen and her husband Zach welcomed their second baby into the world today, baby Dylan.  I can't wait to meet him!  Our family is so blessed!  I know Morgan will be a great big sister!

My best friend Nicole is also having a birthday today!  She is a wonderful friend and my main babysitter!  Haha!  She loves my kids like they are her niece and nephew and is so good to them.  We are having her birthday dinner tomorrow night-so I probably should go start cooking!  :-)

The Stats

We had 15 month check-ups this week and here are the latest stats......(drumroll please).....
For the first time since pretty much their birthweights-Carson weighs less than Emilynn!  I was shocked!
Carson- 24 lb. 8 oz.  29 3/4 inches tall
Emilynn-24 lb. 11 oz. 31 3/4 inches tall

I knew she had him by two inches-I've been saying that for weeks.  :-)  I think our whole milk is really packing on the pounds.  They are both really solid actually, not too chunky really.  Emmy is getting a little belly, which is so cute.  Carson moved from always being in the 10th percentile on weight to the 50th.  That is the only percentile I remember.   They had a good check-up overall.  Emilynn did have an ear infection.  She had started running a fever the night before so I figured something was up.  Both babies are getting molars so they just don't feel all that great.  I didn't even get a hard time about the bottles, we are just going to try a bit harder to wean them off of them.  They actually like cups okay, but they make a HUGE mess.  They drink too much and then spit out the extra and get soaked.  I got some new ones to try so we'll see what happens.
We are still rear-facing in the car.  I actually saw on the news where they are probably changing the recommendations to rear-facing until two years old for everyone.  I was glad to hear that.

We have been loving this spring weather and staying outside for a few hours each evening.  The kids love to explore and play in the yard.  It's fun to watch them play and get excited over new stuff like dirt, rocks, sticks, the cat.  I know we'll be spending a lot of time outside this spring and summer and I'm excited!  Carson cries to go outside.  I'm really glad they enjoy it and with our sandbox and water table that we'll be setting up soon-I think they'll like it even more.

Well, got some things to get done during nap.

Busy, busy, busy....

We are having a busy week-it's been crazy.  Yesterday I got the kids up, yes, I woke them up-still not liking the time change!  We ran and got our milk (the lady we get milk from doesn't like the time change either...for the record!  apparently if you have a farm or twins....the time change can be rough), came home, I made lunch for our construction crew (mostly consists of family :-), made lunch for the kids, left the kids with Nicole, went to get Nanny & Patom, took them to Pa's treatment, came back home, cleaned up lunch, played outside with the kids, made dinner for all of us, made a dish for Bible study covered dish, did some laundry, and my personal indulgence-watched the Bachelor.  Don't ask me why I got into that show this season...I normally don't watch it.  Dustin complained about it every week but I think he secretly got into it too-haha.  Don't tell him I told you!  :-)  Today I did everything on that list again, only we did not have to go to the farm and get milk, and I added Bible study tonight and I went to Walmart afterwards to get a few things.  I got home at 11 and got lunch going for tomorrow although I don't know with the rain if anything is going on in the way of construction tomorrow.  I guess we'll see.  We actually have boards up-we really are going to have a building!  Whew....I'm tired typing all that so I'm off to bed!  I lady at Bible study asked me where I worked.....I told her I was a stay-at-home mom.....but I never stay home!  :-)  It's okay....it's good to be busy.  It makes me appreciate my down time even more.

An Awesome Weekend....

We had a great weekend!   It was relaxing, simple, quiet, and full of family time.  I loved it, it was my idea of a perfect weekend.  Saturday we stayed around the house most of the day.  Dustin did some outside stuff, I did some inside stuff.  Then my mom, step-dad, grandma, and grandpa came over to get Patom out of the house.  They played outside with the kids for a long time.  It was such nice weather!  The babies got their regular naps which had been interrupted some last week.  Today we went to Dustin's grandma's birthday cookout-she will be 86 tomorrow (14th).  It was a fish fry so I was excited about that.  It was great to see her and the kids played with their cousins and were able to run around outside again.  I am loving these warm days!  I did not like the time change though-I can't afford to lose an hour, I'm already late all the time.  That is my ONLY complaint about the weekend!  I hope everyone enjoyed the spring time weather!

Ramblings....

"Heat wave" is the song our singing flowers sing over and over.  In case anyone lost sleep wondering.  I didn't and I didn't turn them on to find out.  The kids have played them a LOT and I finally paid attention to the annoying song I kept hearing-haha!
My sister Madison had her tonsils and adenoids removed yesterday.  She is slowly recovering but can breathe better already-a blessing!  She is having some reactions to her pain meds, so hopefully that gets worked out.
The twins and I took Patom for radiation today and we are going again tomorrow.  We came straight home today to beat the rain.  I am thankful that I am not working so I can be there to help my family.  It is a blessing.
The rain has postponed work on the building until Monday.
Nicole & I got pedicures last night.  We froze!  The man had the water too cold and we kept telling him.  :-(  It was still nice but could have been better.  I shouldn't complain....I know.    I was just disappointed because I had really been looking forward to it.
The babies got to stay with Meme & Poppy at least while I was getting a pedicure and groceries and I think they had fun.  They don't get to see them nearly enough so I was glad they got some one on one time with them....or would that be two on two time????
Cousin Hunter stayed with us yesterday.  He did good and practiced being a good listener.  He likes to "help" me with diaper changes and other twin things.  It's cute.  I like to get him to say Emmy Jo a million times because he really emphasizes the Jo part and it's funny.
Well, I'm off to rest up for tomorrow.  I've been looking at sandboxes online.  I hope to get one as the weather gets warmer.  Any suggestions?  I'm looking at the Little Tikes Turtle one or the Step 2 Crabbie one.....I want one with a lid.  I should just pick one already....I don't HAVE to research every single thing I get the twins-I know.  Is a sandbox really THAT big of a decision?  It is when I'm avoiding cleaning the house tonight!  LOL>

A man cave.....

We started construction today on Dustin's building (a.k.a. "man cave") LOL!  I am excited about it because we desperately need a building for our lawn mower and all the other outdoorsey things that we have.  My dad had a building when we were growing up and we'd spend hours outside in the shed with him.  We were covered in dirt and grease by the end of the day.  I hope it is somewhere Dustin & the kids can just "piddle" and hang out, work on the car (mustang), etc.
Today is Cousin Morgan's actual birthday-Happy 1st Birthday Morgan!  She's is Emilynn's BFF.  :-)  I can't believe she's a year old already-boy how time flies!
Carson, Emilynn, and I took Patom for his radiation today.  It went well, a quick appointment.  We stopped at Cracker Barrel afterwards (is there anywhere else to eat?).  They have a good selection of food the kids and Patom can eat (he has to have soft foods).  The twins like hashbrown casserole, macaroni & cheese, fried apples, carrots, bread, pancakes, applesauce, mashed potatoes, eggs.  I'm sure we'll try more stuff as the weeks continue.  The twins were getting restless today so I took them out to the gift shop while Nan & Pa finished up eating.  Carson fell in love with this singing pot of sunflowers.  It is the most obnoxious thing, it plays the same song over and over (I can't remember the name of it unbelievably) and the flowers go up and down and spin.  He would not put it back, was dancing with it....so........you guessed  it- it's ours.  Great-grandma couldn't resist.  :-)  We couldn't even ring it up, the lady had to get another one to ring up and we bought the display.  The lady working there showed him a monkey that danced as well that was more geared for children, and Carson just looked at her like she was nuts.  He frowned his eyebrows at her as if he was thinking..."What is wrong with you lady....that is NOT as cute as this pot of flowers."  We listened to those flowers all the way home....for 45 minutes straight it played.  It is "sleeping" on the windowsill in their room beside Carson's crib.  Ready for him when he wakes up.  Silly boy.  Emilynn must have decided it wasn't fair because she prompty ran over and grabbed a stuffed bear in a headlock and claimed that as her own.  She got that too.  At least I don't let them get stuff every time we go out.  Just sometimes.  They are being real troopers with all this riding so I guess it's only fair to get a treat occasionally.  Actually I had given them each a new toy this morning to play with in the car.  I had held a few Christmas toys back so we got two out this morning and it made for a much easier ride today.  We are taking it day by day.  Tomorrow cousin Hunter is spending the day with us so I'm off to get some rest.  The three of them will surely give me a run for my money.

What's Up?

Here's a few updates from the past week....it's been a busy one!

  • Patom is coming home tomorrow, we hope.  He is having to stop and get a radiation treatment on the way home-bummer.  You know how good it is to be released from the hospital and all you want to do is go straight home, get a shower in your own bathroom, eat real food...etc.  His treatment won't take too long though.  We've missed having him home!
  • Our Relay team had our BBQ dinner Sat. night.  It was a HUGE success!  Yay! I had fun serving up the 400 desserts we made.  Seriously, we had a ton of desserts!  Our church family pitched in and helped us fill in the gaps-they are great!  I had panicked for nothing over the desserts.
  • I went with my friend Mary for her pre-op appointments for her surgery this upcoming week.  It's cancelled.  She's pregnant!  I got to know before even her hubby.  It was fun and it all went down on her b-day.  You could have knocked us over with a feather when the nurse told us.  I LOVE surprises when they are genuine surprises!!!  :-)  The twins will have another playmate to add to their little group of buddies sometime this fall.
  • We went to cousin Morgan's first birthday party today (Sunday).  It was fun.  However, the twins and cousin Morgan were a bit grouchy from not having naps.  Morgan was asleep when we left and the twins were FOUL.  :-)  It was a fun Mickey Mouse party-our family loves birthdays!  It's fun to celebrate a person and make them feel special.  Morgan is exactly 11 weeks younger than the twins and they are all so cute together.  I'm glad they get to grow up together.
  • Carson & Emilynn have been teething the past few weeks.  It's awful.  Honestly, teething is a BEAR in this house!  I would rather have sleepless nights or something else that people dread about having babies....nothing comes to mind right now.  But teething is bad.  It makes my kids grouchy and nothing makes them happy.  They just want to be held, but then they want to get down.....I don't know.  It's just hard.  Nothing soothes it, nothing makes them happy, you just have to wait it out.  They are proudly displaying several molars now!  They are starting to bite a bit more too.  My friend Nicole and her boyfriend watched the twins one night last week for Dustin & I to go to the hospital and Emilynn bit her boyfriend on the butt!  I don't know what she was thinking.....I guess it seemed like a good idea to a 14 month old.  I was embarrassed.  Anyway, she bit me on the ankle.  My child is literally an ankle biter-haha!
Gotta run get some rest.....another busy week ahead with milk day tomorrow, taking Patom for treatments Tues. & Thurs., Bible study Tues., my sister Madison has surgery this week on Wed.-tonsils & adenoids being removed, meeting a friend for lunch, hoping to get a pedicure (have a gift certificate I've been hanging on to....waiting for warm weather), going to a Pampered Chef party......sounds like a lot.  I might need to cut out some stuff!  I'm tired just typing all of that and I probably forgot something.....and then there's the normal stuff like cooking, cleaning, washing the tons of laundry that seems to be piling up lately, trying to vacuum up the cheerios that get ground into the carpet almost daily.....washing dishes....I'm always washing dishes....no rest for the weary they say!

Prayers for Pa

Patom is in the hospital, please be in prayer for a full recovery for him.  He has pneumonia.
Yesterday the babies and I took him & Nanny for his treatment and an appointment with his radiation doctor.  Well, the babies and I stayed in the car and watched a movie and then went for a walk.  I didn't want to risk getting any patients sick.  That is one office where I worry about US giving the patients germs.   He seemed fine then, he's been slow for a couple of weeks now with the cold he had, then starting treatments.  He ate lunch, which I thought was a good sign because he doesn't always.  We had a nice day and then during our women's Bible study last night, Nanny called me and said we needed to get over there because he wasn't doing well.  Luckily we have 2 nurses in our family, so they took his vitals and determined his blood pressure was really low, temp really high and he was dehydrated.  The ambulance took him to the hospital and he was admitted at about 3:30 this morning.  Cancer treatments are on hold for at least 3 days and then we'll go from there.  He has been given fluids and antibiotics.  Everyone is glad this happened earlier in his treatments rather than later since his immune system isn't quite AS compromised as it will be in the next few weeks.  Please keep him and Nanny in your prayers.  These are trying times but God is always there.  I'm going to try to get some rest- I got home at 4:45 this morning.  Just in time for Dustin to head out the door to be at work by 5 am.  I awoke to a big mess as Carson decided to take his diaper off this morning, of all mornings!  Our big Relay for Life BBQ dinner is Saturday night, so this week is busy with preparations for that as well.  I've been working on my desserts list this morning and trying to stay awake till babies' nap time!  I will keep updating with the latest.  Thank you for prayers-they DO work!
